Linking derived debitage to the Stonehenge Altar Stone using portable X-ray fluorescence analysis

چکیده

Abstract The Altar Stone at Stonehenge in Wiltshire, UK, is enigmatic that it differs markedly from the other bluestones. It a grey–green, micaceous sandstone and has been considered to be derived Old Red Sandstone sequences of South Wales. Previous studies, however, have based on presumed fragments (debitage) identified visually as coming Stone. Portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) analyses were conducted these ( ex situ ) well ). Light elements Z <37) analyses, performed after night heavy rain, affected by surface pore water attenuate low energy X-rays, however dry debitage produced data for full suite elements. High elements, including Zr, Nb, Sr, Pb, Th U, all occupy same compositional space fragments, are statistically indistinguishable, indicating Barium compares very closely between Stone, with differences being related variable baryte distribution limited accessibility its analysis, probably weathering. A notable feature presence (up 0.8 modal%), manifest relatively high Ba both These contents marked contrast those small set field samples, analysed alongside raising possibility may not sourced This ‘fingerprint’, baryte, provide rapid test using pXRF search source

Determining the Content of Silicon Dioxide in Bauxites Using X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometry

The X-ray fluorescence spectrometry and the MA.BM.006 reference spectrophotometric methods were used to determine the content of SiO2 (%) in bauxites from different deposits. The treatment of samples prior to the analysis involved the following steps: annealing, melting using the borax method,  and the formation of beads. Certified reference bauxite samples were used for the cali...

Field Portable X-Ray Fluorescence Geochemical Analysis – Its Contribution to Onsite Real-time Project Evaluation

The field portable x-ray fluorescence spectrometer (FPXRF) has evolved to become a unique highly productive geochemical tool over the past 30 years. As with most highly sophisticated technological tools, it is deceptively simple to use, can easily be carried and operated using only one hand and can provide an onsite, nondestructive chemical analysis of about 30 elements ranging in concentration...

Immediate screening of lead exposure in the workplace using portable X-ray fluorescence

The use of a portable X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (PXRF) equipped with a miniaturised X-ray tube producing a small 8 mm diameter X-ray beam required the validation of two new sampling protocols for the immediate screening of occupational lead exposure. First, lead in dust and fumes, collected by Institute of Occupational Medicine (IOM) inhalable samplers on 25 mm diameter membrane filters, ...

X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy Using X–ray Fluorescence Spectrometer

Strong characteristic Kα X-ray lines are accompanied by weak lines due to the radiative Auger effect (RAE) [1, 2]. The characteristic Kα fluorescent X-rays (K-L2,3 lines) are emitted by the 2p→1s electric dipole transition after one of the 1s electron photoionization, Though the probability is less than 0.01, one of the 2p electrons is excited into an unoccupied discrete or continuum level simu...
